Two Bronze Eye Inlays from Coffins. 1. (M707) An eye inlay for a coffin or possibly a statue; cast in bronze with a recess on the front which still holds the original inlays with the original cement. These three pieces consist of an ovoid pupil in black obsidian flanked by whites in calcite. The curvature of the bronze casting is very well done and in perfect condition. The inlays are not of the finest quality when it comes to the fitting but are still good. The outer white is somewhat cracked in the corner of the eye, but no piece is missing. Overall a very beautiful piece of excellent quality. L 4 cm. New Kingdom or possibly later. Provenance: Found at Abydos by L. Bjuggren in 1960s. 2. (M1010) A bronze inlay frame for a right eye from a coffin. Inside the eye frame, a flat eye shaped eye-white in shell or limestone has been set and a patina line shows where a black pupil used to be set. The eye white is held in place by blackish resin and a bar of bronze behind. L 7 cm. Late Period.
