A large Acheulean ovoid handaxe

A Large Acheulean Ovoid Handaxe (M1218). An excellent example of a large ovoid bifacial handaxe in light grayish-brown flint under a beautiful heavy chestnut brown desert patina. Minor chips revealing original color. Acheulean industry tools are typically found with the remains of Homo erectus – the perfectly symmetrical zig-zag edge seen when viewed from the side reveals the level of rational thinking and design of these early humans. L: 11.5, W: 10.2, D: 3.9 cm. Provenance: Collected or purchased by Larissa Bjuggren in the 1960s. Provenance unknown (reputedly from an old Egyptian colletion). An exhibition quality piece.
