Predynastic storage jar

Predynastic Storage Jar (M812). A fine medium sized storage jar in Red Polished Ware. The neck is restricted with a rounded and everted rim. The body is bulbous and tapers down to a small flat base. The fabric is a very fine Nile silt with a polished exterior , probably red-slipped, which is fired to a reddish-brown colour. The vessel is fractured into quite a few sherds with a visible impact-rosette on one side and cracks radiating out it - repaired. Still an excellent example of this rare type and with some fill and touch-up, it could easily be restored to its former glory. H: 24 cm. Predynastic, probably Nagada II. Ex.
