Brightly Painted Coffin Panel, 21st Dynasty. Small section from the side panel of a ‘Deir el-Bahari’ yellow type coffin with polychrome decoration over gesso (but no resin lacquer). The outer surface features two fragmentary vertical columns of hieroglyphs flanked by two mummiform figures of Osiris seated opposite each other. In front of the right hand figure, an offering table and Osiris totem are visible (hide on a pole). The left column of hieroglyphs mentions the divine necropolis, alabaster (?) and libations; the right mentions someone having authority over (?) a particular temple or house (names are missing). Painted with blue, green, red and black pigments over a yellow ground. Traces of decoration on inside (reverse) as well. Third Intermediate Period, 21st Dynasty (could be 22nd). H: 9, W: 26.5 cm.
