Name bead of Ramses ll 19th Dynasty

Fine Name Bead of Ramses II (M304). New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, reign of Ramses II. 33.5 mm in length and 16 mm in Width. Bright blue faience, with darker purple faience inlay. Lower quarter broken and missing. Provenance: From an old Swedish collection, A bright blue faience cowroid-shaped flat-backed "Name-Bead" bearing the Son of Re name of Ramses II in cartouche inlaid in darker faience (before firing): ‘The Son of Ra Ramses Beloved of Amun’. The lower quarter is broken and missing. At the reverse side of the top there is a twin hole for suspension, and a groove leading along the backside. The identical holes at the bottom are missing. It was definitely threaded along two cords. This type of inlaid faience-work is only found from the 18th and 19th dynasties. Literature: Compare similar technique in F. Dunn Friedman (ed.) 1998.
