Obelisk reliquary with Osiris, Isis and Horus Late Period

Obelisk Reliquary with Osiris, Isis and Horus. A small animal sarcophagus or reliquary, probably originally for part of a falcon. This sarcophagus is in limestone in the shape of an obelisk, as a back-pillar for a standing figure of Osiris (semi-round, en face) wearing the atef-crown. A figure of Isis seated on a throne and suckling the Horus-child is at his left side on a smaller scale beside his leg. This is most unusual for the type. The obelisk shows extensive traces of red paint at either side. Osiris is also painted red, with traces of blue on the Maat feathers of his crown. The backside of the obelisk is hollowed out, making a rectangular reliquary for the mummy. Late Period. Height: 13.5, Width: 4.9, Depth: 4.6 cm. Intact except for chip on backside, paint worn, mummy gone. Harmer Rooke Catalog of May 4, 1995, lot # 67 with picture.
