Hand colored engraving, plate size approximately 8 x 4 3/4 inches on sheet size 9 x 5 1/2 inches. Very good condition on laid paper. Plate # 153 from Curtiss Botanical Magazine. With text sheet. An exquisite image showing the bulb, roots, leaves and flower; identified as a native of Spain where it "flowers in the open ground at the same time as the Crocus, for a purple variety of which it might easily be mistaken a first sight."
